International Coalition of
Sites of Conscience Summit
The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience will hold its first summit in the United States from June 26–June 30, and the National Civil Rights Museum is the host site! This conference will feature a Public Discussion on Saturday, June 27th.
The International Coalition is a network of historic sites like the National Civil Rights Museum in countries such as South Africa, Bangladesh, Russia, Italy, Senegal, United Kingdom, Chile, Argentina and the U.S. that remember very different histories but are all committed to opening dialogue on today’s important issues. In finding solutions to today’s problems, the Coalition was developed to explore connections to past human rights issues like poverty and welfare, racism, genocide, totalitarianism, victims of war, displacement, human trafficking and slavery by interpreting history through historic sites, engaging programs on social issues and providing opportunity for public involvement.

Public Discussion:
“Remembering Guantánamo, 1898 – Tomorrow”
As debates rage about whether to “close Guantánamo”, we invite you to join in the first public discussion on why we should remember Guantánamo’s long history. Join international leaders in human rights, heritage, preservation and Sites of Conscience to learn about the complex history of the site, understand how it has been used through time and discuss the possible future of the site.
The public discussion will include different perspectives on important questions such as:
• Why remember Guantánamo?
• What should we remember about
Guantánamo?
• How can we remember this site’s
long and complex history?
• Who should be involved? |
