Friday, March, 6
Join us for a book signing reception and discussion from Dr. Hasan Jeffries, Associate Professor of History at The Ohio State University. Jeffries will discuss his new edited volume, Understanding and Teaching the Civil Rights Movement. Jeffries was the lead scholar for the museum's 2012-2014 renovation project.
The book will be available for purchase from the Museum Store during the reception.
On Saturday, March 7
Dr. Jeffries will host a workshop featuring several of the nation’s leading civil rights scholars who will facilitate sessions based on their chapters in Jeffries’ new book. These sessions will introduce teachers to new scholarship and resources and will provide them with innovative ways to teach the movement.
- Julie Armstrong, University of South Florida: “Teaching the Civil Rights Movement Through Literature”
- Todd Moye, University of North Texas: “Using Oral History to Construct and Teach New Civil Rights Narratives”
- Charles Hughes, Rhodes College: “Teaching Music of the Movement”
The workshop is free and count toward professional development hours. Participants who complete both workshops will receive a copy of Dr. Hassan Jeffries’ newly released volume, Understanding and Teaching the Civil Rights Movement.
